Event narrative

Thunderstorm winds damaged a power pole and snapped trees 1 mile south-southeast of Elkton. The same storm then produced sporadic tree damage in the town of Oakdale five minutes later.

Wider weather episode

A line of thunderstorms developed ahead of an advancing cold front during the late night of August 15th/very early morning hours of August 16th. A discrete storm ahead of the line produced a downburst in south central Illinois. A few hours later this same activity produced wind damage in southwest Illinois.
