Event narrative

The northwest portion of Farmersville was impacted by a localized downburst with winds estimated around 70 mph. Several large trees were snapped, numerous branches and a power pole were down, and several metal outbuildings sustained damage to garage doors or siding.

Wider weather episode

A line of thunderstorms developed ahead of an advancing cold front during the late night of August 15th/very early morning hours of August 16th. A discrete storm ahead of the line produced a downburst in south central Illinois. A few hours later this same activity produced wind damage in southwest Illinois.
