Event narrative
A Facebook user reported a collapsed large park pavilion and included a picture. After analysis, NWS concluded that the pavilion was lacking structural integrity. The thunderstorm winds that felled the structure are estimated to be between 40 and 50 mph.
Wider weather episode
A hot, humid airmass in place during the afternoon of August 28th caused an unstable environment, albeit with very little bulk wind shear. Weak outflow boundaries around the Ozarks served as a focus for convective initiation that afternoon. Downbursts were the primary hazard, and one storm produced damaging but non-severe gusts in Ste. Genevieve County.
