The ASOS at the Hill City airport (KHLC) reported a peak wind gust of 71 mph. Additional gusts of 60 and 69 mph were also reported at the site.

Wider weather episode

Thunderstorms that originated from eastern Colorado moved into western Kansas producing numerous instances of severe wind up to 70 mph. Tree damage from thunderstorm winds was reported in Rawlins county along with nickel size hail.
