Event narrative

Wind gust was measured at the Oregon Inlet CG Weatherflow site. Gust occurred as thunderstorms were moving through the area.

Wider weather episode

A strong cold front located along Appalachia on the afternoon of the 18th quickly tracked eastwards and moved into the Coastal Plain during the late overnight hours on the 18th to the early morning hours on the 19th. Out ahead of this front shower and thunderstorms developed across the Piedmont during the afternoon on the 18th and eventually tracked east across the Coastal Plain and eventually the waters of Eastern North Carolina during the early morning hours of the 19th with a few of these storms becoming strong to severe in nature. These storms brought damaging wind gusts to our coastal waters and the Pamlico Sound.
