Thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front during the afternoon hours of the 3rd across the Brainerd Lakes region. The environment was supportive of strong to severe storms and some of the storms did produce mainly large hail along with a few damaging wind gusts. The largest hail was 2 inches in diameter near Backus along with sporadic reports of tree damage.
