Event narrative

A severe thunderstorm producing wind gusts estimated at 60 mph knocked down multiple trees and wires near Benton along Maple Grove Road near Ribble Lane.

Wider weather episode

A cold front stationed across northwestern Pennsylvania with an approaching MCV from the northern panhandle of West Virginia allowed for convection to begin forming across portions of south-central Pennsylvania during the afternoon hours of July 17, 2024. As showers and thunderstorms moved into an environment of more favorable instability and moisture in eastern Pennsylvania, isolated instances of severe thunderstorm winds gusts were observed throughout the late afternoon and evening hours.
