Extreme drought was trimmed back to the far southwest portion of the zone with the rest of the zone now under severe drought.

Wider weather episode

The continuation of an active 2024 monsoon season resulted in further slight improvements in drought conditions across the state. However, localized areas of severe drought remained across north central New Mexico and the northern Albuquerque Metro along with severe to locally extreme drought in southern Lincoln and Chaves County.
