High heat and humidity moved into the region during the early days of August. High temperatures in the upper 90s to low 100s were widespread across central, north central and northeast South Dakota on both August 2nd and 3rd. A peak high temperature of 104 degrees was recorded at the South Dakota State University Mesonet stations 7 miles southwest of Hayes and 16 miles east southeast of Pierre on August 3rd. Dewpoints across much of northeast South Dakota were also well into the 70s with a few locations topping an 80 degree dewpoint. Heat index values reached 110 degrees at Stratford and Millette on Friday August 2nd and 113 degrees in Redfield on Saturday August 3rd.
