Event narrative

Trees reported down in the Weirton area, along with pea-sized hail.

Wider weather episode

A slow-moving upper low centered over northern Lake Michigan slowly shifted east during the afternoon, and the approach of a pre-frontal trough combined with diurnal destabilization resulted in convective development along and ahead of a cold frontal boundary. MLCAPE values near 1000-2000 J/kg and mid-level lapse rates of 6-6.5 C/km resulted in a damaging wind threat with convection.
