Event narrative

A Yuma Proving Ground Mesonet site west of US Highway 95 measured a 61 mph wind gust.

Wider weather episode

With the subtropical high pressure situated over southern Nevada, the steering flow was from the northeast. Thunderstorm activity developed over the Mogollon Rim during the early afternoon hours and was steered southwestward towards Yavapai, northwestern Maricopa, and La Paz Counties. The overall environment was characterized by MLCAPE values of 500-1000 J/KG, with DCAPE values near 2000 J/KG. Thus, conditions were favorable for strong to severe downburst wind gusts to materialize with any thunderstorm activity that developed.
