A northeast wind gust of 40 knots was measured at a WeatherFlow station at Carysfort Reef Light.
Wider weather episode
An upper level low pressure system approaching from the western north Atlantic in combination with departing Saharan air layer to the west resulted in vigorous convection over mainland south Florida. Multiple outflow boundaries moved southward, bringing gale-force wind gusts along the reef offshore Key Largo.
