Severe thunderstorms formed over eastern Montana ahead of an upper level short wave trough and jet streak. Most of the severe weather remained over Montana and South Dakota, but a few storms grazed southwestern North Dakota resulting in severe wind gusts. The strongest reported wind gust of 85 mph occurred to the northeast of Scranton, in Slope County.
