Event narrative

The wind tore some shingles off of the roof, and a cottonwood tree had some branches broken off and leaves stripped.

Wider weather episode

Thunderstorms developed along a surface boundary in an environment of elevated instability and marginal deep layer shear. Some of the storms became severe over Grant, Morton, and Burleigh Counties producing large hail and severe wind gusts. The largest hail, which was the size of a half-dollar, occurred on the west end of Mandan in Morton County. The strongest reported wind gusts, estimated at 70 mph, occurred to the north of Lark in Grant County, and on the west end of Mandan in Morton County.
