Event narrative

A strong cold front initiated a thunderstorm over the mountains to the west. Radar imagery revealed the thunderstorm dropped its core by 6:13 pm which triggered the high winds. No storm damage noted around the town of Salmon.

Wider weather episode

Ahead of a closed low pressure system scattered thunderstorms developed from Lemhi County into Southwest Montana. Storms produced brief heavy rain and strong outflow winds.
