Event narrative

A public personal weather station in Avon Lake recorded a peak convective wind gust of 41-mph from a cluster of rain showers.

Wider weather episode

At the surface, the Lake Erie region resided within the warm/moist sector, along the northwestern flank of the Bermuda-Azores subtropical high pressure ridge, during the afternoon through early evening of the 14th. Simultaneously, a cold front drifted southeastward across the far-northwestern Great Lakes, Upper Mississippi Valley, and vicinity. Well-ahead of the front, clusters of multicell showers and thunderstorms persisted generally eastward over and near the western-half of Lake Erie and generated a couple of gale-force peak convective wind gusts along the Lorain County shore during the early evening. These storms encountered moderate MUCAPE, DCAPE, and effective bulk shear, respectively.
