Trees and wires down on US 9W southbound between Gurnee Avenue and Short Clove Road.

The wider storm

A broad positively tilted upper-level trough approached from the west along with associated surface cold front and pre-frontal trough. The pre-frontal trough moved into an area with high instability (1750-2000 J/kg of MLCAPE). This combined with Effect Bulk Shear values around 25 kt allowed for multiple severe thunderstorms to develop. The storms were able to produce damaging wind gusts across southeast NY, with DCAPE values around 750-1000 J/kg.
