Wider weather episode
A progressive cluster of thunderstorms developed across south central South Dakota in response to a weak mid-level wave drifting out of western South Dakota. A slight increase in the low-level jet brought deep-layer shear to 35-40 knots, and MUCAPE around 2000 J/kg provided fuel for storms to strengthen and congeal into a bowing structure which traversed to the east-southeast. The strongest storms produced damaging winds generally from 60 to 80 mph.
