At 12 UTC on the 10th, a trough was positioned over the upper Midwest, with northwesterly flow over the Great Plains. At the surface, a surface trough extended from north-central Kansas into southeastern Iowa. In the afternoon hours, scattered thunderstorms developed across far southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa.
