Event narrative

The human caused Bench Lake Fire began on July 11th and continued through the month eventually becoming 85 percent contained by the end of the month. It was located in Custer County near Redfish Lake and it closed the Redfish Lake Recreation Complex for a period of time. Closed trails were Alpine Way Trail, between Marshal Lake and Redfish Lake Lodge, Fishhook Trail 186, Redfish Trail to Baron Creek 101 and all trails heading into the Bench Lakes. The fire grew to 2,595 acres with over three hundred personnel working on it at one point.
