Drought — Dickson, Tennessee

2024-09-01 to 2024-09-30 · Dickson, Tennessee

Event narrative

Severe conditions in August 2024 continued to deteriorate across Dickson County in September. By the end of the month, severe to extreme drought conditions were present across the entire county.

Wider weather episode

As an abnormally dry summer came to an end, drought conditions only continued to worsen across Middle Tennessee in September 2024. Prior to rainfall received from the remnants of Hurricane Helene, rain deficits continued to grow across the area. By the end of the month, about 75 percent of the area was in at least the severe drought category with 21 percent classified as extreme drought. Fortunately, several inches of rain were received during the last days of September from the remnants of Hurricane Helene which should offer drought relief into the fall.
