The end of July heat event continued through the afternoon on August 1st, with a line of storms crossing northwest Kentucky mid-afternoon, continuing through the Pennyrile late afternoon. Cooler and drier conditions remained afterwards. The highest heat index on the 1st in Western Kentucky was 120F at the Murray-Calloway County Regional Airport AWOS site.
