Despite the saturated atmospheric profile, the strong to severe storms that developed on the afternoon of August 10 that were capable of producing severe winds. The peak gust with this storm was 59 mph, recorded twice at KDRO ASOS at the Durango-La Plata County Airport. This storm also produced heavy rain. No reports of damages or injuries were received.

Ample monsoonal moisture was in place on the afternoon of August 10, along with some modest upper level support in the form of passing shortwaves and an upper level jet. This scenario supported widespread strong to severe convection across the region, resulting in severe wind gusts as well as heavy rain that led to multiple debris flows.
