A sharp cold front arrived during the early morning hours of October 6th. While the passage was during the overnight hours, a few hundred joules of instability ended up being just enough to aid in stronger winds aloft mixing to the surface. The primary thunder threat with this remained over the eastern U.P. of Michigan into the Tip of the Mitt region prior to 3am ET...with some small hail reported in Sault Ste. Marie, MI with the initial line. Behind this front...winds remained gusty through the rest of the day over much of the region as cooler temperatures overtook the region.
