Wider weather episode
Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms progressed through West Virginia on August 31st as a cold front swept through the Ohio Valley. While the overall setup for severe weather was low that day, a few storms grew strong enough to produce downbursts that resulted in single tree damage across West Virginia. In addition, a few spots observed stronger intensity damaging wind gusts, which caused multiple downed trees. As the cold front inched closer to Central Appalachia, the thunderstorm threat weakened in West Virginia.
