An upper level ridge over the western United States resulted in high temperatures climbing to around 5-10 degrees above normal in Phoenix during the middle part of May. High temperatures recorded at Phoenix Sky Harbor ranged between 100-105 degrees between the 13th through 16th. According to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, seven heat-associated fatalities occurred during this time.
