Event narrative

The eastern portion of the area remained in Extreme(D3) drought while the west remained in Severe(D2) drought. The Cooperative Observer at Antelope Wells reported 1.48 inches of precipitation which was 0.81 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

Another month of below normal precipitation for much of southern New Mexico kept drought conditions persistent through August.
