Event narrative

The southern half of the zone remained in Severe(D2) drought with improvement to the north where it finished the month in Abnormally Dry(D0) drought. The Mountain Park Cooperative Observer reported 1.46 inches of precipitation which was 2.08 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

Another month of below normal precipitation for much of southern New Mexico kept drought conditions persistent through August.
