Event narrative

Strong south winds developed through Isabel Pass around midnight of the 16th and continued into the morning hours. A number of observation stations reported wind gusts in excess of 70 mph during the event, with a peak gust of 90 mph reported at the DOT Texas Condo mesonet station (TCOA2).

Wider weather episode

A chinook developed over the Alaska Range, producing high winds near and through the passes on the north side of the range.
