Event narrative
Lewis and Clark County emergency management reported that Jimtown rd was closed due to a water/debris flow flash flood originating from the Horse Gulch burn scar.
Broadcast media report: Although 12 campers were stranded as a result of the flash flood, no one was injured, and no property was destroyed in the Riverside Campground area near the Missouri River.
Wider weather episode
An upper level trough passed across the Northern Rockies September 11, which allowed for numerous thunderstorms to develop in the afternoon. Thermodynamic and kinematic ingredients were sufficient for a few strong thunderstorms, mostly across Southwest Montana. Additionally, a series of thunderstorms moved across the Horse Gulch burn scar, which resulted in flash flooding.
