Heat index values met or exceeded 105 across much of the county from August 13 to August 24 2024. Outside of the Excessive Heat Warning days, Denton County Public Health reported 21 heat related illnesses and one death during this period.

Wider weather episode

Some of the hottest weather of the season occurred as a mid and upper ridge dominated North and Central Texas during the middle to latter part of August. All of the forecast area reached Heat Advisory criteria, and a good portion of the region reached Excessive Heat Warning criteria more than once during this period. Unfortunately there were 4 heat related fatalities during this period.
