Wider weather episode

Showers and thunderstorms developed across the Panhandles during the afternoon and evening hours in relation to a surface boundary in the area. The combination of daytime heating, where afternoon highs were exceeding 100 degrees, sufficient wind shear and plenty of dry air supportive of microbursts, resulted in severe wind gusts across the region. Several microbursts occurred that resulted in winds of 60 to 80mph estimated have occurred. Because of this, wind damage occurred across portions of the central and northern Texas Panhandle.
