Anomalously warm air temperatures and high humidity allowed the maximum heat index to reach between 105 to 110 degrees on August 26th across Wabasha County. The heat index reached 110 degrees at the Minnesota Department of Transportation observation station.

Wider weather episode

After a relatively mild summer, a period of excessive heat impacted much of the region prompting air temperatures to reach well above 90 degrees during the afternoon on August 26th. This combined with dewpoints as high as 80 degrees in some locations allowed for heat indices to climb above 110 degrees on August 26th.
