An upper level ridge of high pressure strengthened over the Desert Southwest during the time period between the 6-11th, leading to excessive heat conditions across parts of the region. In Phoenix, record high temperatures were set on the 8th, 9th, and 10th. The hottest temperature recorded during this time occurred on the the 9th when Phoenix Sky Harbor recorded a high of 114 degrees. According to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, there were 12 heat-associated fatalities that occurred during this event.
