Drought — Stewart, Tennessee

2024-10-01 to 2024-10-31 · Stewart, Tennessee

Event narrative

Severe drought conditions from September 2024 improved in October with abnormally dry conditions across Stewart County.

Wider weather episode

The remnants of Hurricane Helene at the end of September 2024 provided significant drought relief in October. At the beginning of October, only about 2 percent of Middle Tennessee was in at least severe drought, compared to about 75 percent of the area at the end of September. Unfortunately, October 2024 proved to be one of the driest Octobers on record, ranking at number 13 going back to 1871. This caused drought conditions to worsen yet again, and by the end of the month, about 11 percent of Middle Tennessee was in at least severe drought.
