Event narrative

Public weather station located about 2.5-miles WSW of Vermilion recorded a peak convective wind gust of 59-mph from an approaching and outflow-dominant line of thunderstorms.

Wider weather episode

Between about daybreak and nightfall on August 6th, a wavy surface cold front drifted generally southward from northern OH and near the NY/PA line to southern OH and the northern Mid-Atlantic states. This front separated a warm and humid air mass to its north from a warmer and more-humid air mass to its south. A line of multicell thunderstorms persisted southeastward across western and central Lake Erie during the early afternoon through early evening of the 6th and generated peak convective wind gusts as strong as 35 knots to 69 knots along the southern lakeshore. These storms encountered weak to moderate MUCAPE and moderate to strong effective bulk shear.
