Severe Drought (D2) conditions persisted through late month with a brief period of Extreme Drought (D3) in the middle of the month.

Wider weather episode

Severe (D2) to extreme (D3) drought conditions persisted along the Tennessee River Valley through September. Abnormally dry and unseasonably warm conditions were present. Pastures across the area provided little to no feed and supplemental feeding of livestock was required. Tropical Depression Helene was able to squash worsening conditions at the end of the month.
