Event narrative

Severe(D2) drought continued over the south with improvement to Abnormally Dry(D0) drought over the northern half of the zone. The Mountain Park Cooperative Observer reported 0.45 inches of precipitation which was 2.03 inches below normal.

Wider weather episode

Another month of below normal precipitation during the monsoon season kept much of far southern New Mexico in Severe(D2) to Extreme(D3) drought in September.
