The month started with the entire zone in Extreme(D3) drought. By the end of the month, the southeast was still in Extreme(D3) drought but the north and west improved to Severe(D2) drought.

Wider weather episode

Another month of below normal precipitation during the monsoon season kept much of far southern New Mexico in Severe(D2) to Extreme(D3) drought in September.
