Wider weather episode
During the morning hours on September 27th, the remnants of Hurricane Helene moved quickly northward from the Florida Panhandle, traversing the southern Appalachian Mountains before turning northwest and moving across the lower Ohio Valley. A swath of moderate to occasionally heavy rain moved across southern Indiana on September 27th and 28th, with rainfall totals generally between two and four inches. This rainfall helped to alleviate the drought conditions which were ongoing before the storm arrived. Strong winds from the pressure gradient associated with the remnants of Hurricane Helene were experienced across southern Indiana on the 27th. Many reports of trees and power lines down were received across southern Indiana, and scattered power outages were also reported.
