Event narrative

Peak wind gusts reached the maximum measurable speed of 67 mph at the southeast Vaughn mesonet station. Sustained winds of 49 mph were also observed at this mesonet station a few miles southeast of Vaughn. Additionally, brief wind gusts of 60 mph were observed at the Thompson Cattle mesonet.

Wider weather episode

Strong northwest winds quickly developed during the mid to late morning hours across the Central Highlands and western Guadalupe County behind an upper level low departing northeast over the Great Plains. High wind gusts of 58 to 67 mph were observed from Clines Corners to just southeast of Vaughn along U.S. Highway 285. West winds tapered off during the evening hours around sunset.
