Event narrative
Several Marine Exchange of Alaska mesonet stations across downtown Juneau measured gusts in excess of 60 mph from the evening of November 19th through the morning of the 21st. A peak gust of 84 mph was measured at the top of the Juneau Library at 233pm on the 20th. Other peak gusts were over 70 mph.
Wider weather episode
Strong outflow event in late autumn along with strong cross barrier flow and a low level inversion initiated a long duration mountain wave event over Downtown Juneau. A 24 hour lull in winds occurred on the 21st, followed by another surge in winds which are included as a separate episode.
