Tropical storm force winds spread throughout Florida Bay, with the C-MAN station at Long Key Light measured sustained winds of 44 knots with gusts to 48 knots.
The wider storm
Hurricane Helene moved north northeast across the eastern Gulf of Mexico, strengthening to category 2 strength before passing at closest approach 235 statue miles to the west-northwest of Key West on the morning of September 27, 2024. Widespread lower-end tropical storm force winds overspread the Florida Keys coastal waters.
