Event narrative

High temperature reached a record 112 in Anaheim on September 6, 2024. The heat wave lasted through September 9th with high temperatures of 104 to 113F across inland Orange County. A woman and a child were found in a locked vehicle on September 6th. The child died at the hospital. Authorities reported the air temperature at 104 when they arrived at 420 pm. Authorities reported that alcohol was involved and the mother of the child was later arrested. 112 exceeds the prior all-time high temperature at Anaheim which was 109 set in September 2020.

Wider weather episode

A heat wave developed starting Labor Day weekend and peaked the next weekend September 5 to 9, 2024. The hottest days included Ramona reaching 114, Santa Ana 113, and Anaheim an all-time record of 112.
