A shortwave moved into Iowa from South Dakota and Nebraska. Convection developed in ahead of, and with the shortwave axis, enhancing later in the evening with the development of the low level jet. ECAPE exceeded 1000 J/kg with effective shear of 30-40+ kts to aid in severe storm development. Additionally, directional shear in the low levels supported rotating updrafts supportive of hail development. Storms across the area produces penny to quarter sized hail with one report up to the size of golf balls.
