Event narrative

Wider weather episode

A shortwave passed across the area, bringing widespread rain with over two inches falling in much of southeast Iowa. By afternoon weak instability developed, and when combined with robust available shear, was enough to produce isolated hail and damaging wind gusts. Storms organized into a QLCS in the evening and while hodographs were supportive of rotating updrafts and the potential for tornadoes, storms remained just elevated and prevented any further development.
