Helene's expansive wind field produced a period of tropical storm conditions, especially in gusts, over the nearshore waters of Volusia County. A Coastal Ocean Research and Monitoring Program (CORMP) buoy east of Daytona Beach, Station 41070, recorded seas up to 11 feet.

Major Hurricane Helene paralleled the west coast of Florida before making landfall in the Big Bend region of Florida near the city of Perry. The system's expansive wind field produced tropical storm conditions across much of east central Florida including its adjacent coastal waters.
