D2 drought conditions began on October 29th and continued through the end of the month in the far northern part of the parish, adjacent to St. Helena Parish and Pike County.

Wider weather episode

Cumulative rainfall for 2024 from the start of the year through mid September was generally above average with just a few times dropping down to average. However, from mid September through the entire month of October, virtually no appreciable rain fell. Although October is typically one of the driest local months, usually a few inches of rain fall. This short-term dry spell resulted in the development of severe drought conditions across parishes along the Mississippi River as well as adjacent to southwest Mississippi.
