Event narrative

High winds blew down at least a dozen trees across the county with one of them falling on to a power line. Several roads were blocked from these downed trees, including the intersection of U.S. Highway 52 North and South Key Street in Pilot Mountain.

A potent upper level low trailing behind a strong cold front brought the first notable surge of cold air for the winter season. The gusty northwest wind accompanying the air mass change blew down about a dozen trees with one of them falling on to a power line in Surry County.
