Consistent rainfall over several days saturated the ground, allowing for a strong wind to knock down a tree onto a mobile home, causing significant damage to the structure and killing one occupant who was in his bedroom.
An 85 year old man died after he fell outside of his home and was exposed to cold weather for an unknown period of time. Temperatures on the morning of January 9th were near 10 degrees.
A 37-year-old female was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Riverside Drive in Mount Airy when one vehicle lost control because of slick road conditions, crossed the centerline and struck an on-coming vehicle. Four others were injured in the accident.

Carson Street in Pilot Mountain, NC is was observed flooded around 1 foot deep as runoff from heavy rain overflowed a drainage ditch across the roadway, making the road impassible to traffic. The road was reopened to traffic after the water receded.

High winds blew down at least a dozen trees across the county with one of them falling on to a power line. Several roads were blocked from these downed trees, including the intersection of U.S. Highway 52 North and South Key Street in Pilot Mountain.
